2003 Toyota Land Cruiser Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the A/C Clutch on 2003 Toyota Land Cruiser?
A: The service and repair process for the compressor clutch starts when you run the engine at idle speed combined with A/C activation for 10 minutes while stopping the engine to unplug the negative (-) cable from the battery. The service starts with discharging the refrigerant from the refrigeration system followed by removing the engine under cover and drive belt. The two discharge and suction hose bolts must be removed and open fittings capped right away to stop system moisture and dirt entry. The front drive shaft LH along with the compressor requires removal by disconnecting the connector while removing three bolts. To install the compressor fasten it using 3 bolts which should be tightened to 49 N.m while reconnecting the connector. Secure the front drive shaft LH followed by attaching the discharge and suction hoses to 2 bolts that require compression at 10 N.m (100 kgf.cm, 7 ft.lbf) after applying compressor oil to newly installed O-rings and immediately connecting hoses after removing the caps. After reinstalling and checking the drive belt users must reconnect the negative (-) terminal battery cable and perform refrigerant system evacuation before adding the correct charging amounts which are 650 plus or minus 50 g (22.93 plus or minus 1.76 oz.) for single A/C system and 1,050 plus or minus 50 g (37.03 plus or minus 1.76 oz.) for dual A/C system. The last procedure includes using a gas leak detector to detect refrigerant leaks while checking joint torque when leakage occurs followed by A/C operational inspection.
