2003 Toyota Corolla Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the water pump assembly on 2003 Toyota Corolla?
A: One must begin water pump assembly replacement by clearing the coolant from the draining underframe on the right-hand side while removing the engine cover. The fan and generator V belt should be removed first, followed by disconnecting the wire clamp from the wire clip on the rectifier end frame and removing the rubber cap and nut to disconnect the alternator wire and then disconnecting the alternator connector and removing the two bolts securing the alternator. To extract the water pump assembly start by removing its six bolts and water pump while removing and discarding the O-ring. The installation includes adding a fresh O-ring to the timing chain cover followed by tightening six bolts on the water pump with Bolt A receiving a torque of 9.0 Nm and Bolt B at 11 Nm. Put the generator assembly back into place and apply torque of 25 Nm (250 kgf-cm, 18 ft. lbs.) on the 12 mm head while using 54 Nm (550 kgf-cm, 39 ft. lbs.) torque on the 14 mm head. Put in engine coolant while looking for any coolant leakage from the system. To inspect the drain opening of the water pump assembly check for any coolant leakage by eye.
