2003 Toyota Corolla Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the thermostat on 2003 Toyota Corolla?
A: The procedure to replace the thermostat begins with removing engine under cover RH along with draining out the coolant. Remove the generator V belt and fan before proceeding to take out the generator assembly through wire clamp unclipping from wire clip on rectifier end frame followed by rubber cap and nut removal to disconnect the alternator wire and alternate connector removal. Then remove two bolts to disconnect the alternator. Finally remove the engine under cover RH together with the thermostat. Install the new thermostat while using a new gasket and place it in position with the jiggle valve pointed upwards. Closely torque the water inlet while installing it with a specification of 11 Nm (113 kgf-cm, 8 ft. lbs.). The installation requires putting back the generator assembly followed by suitable torque application at 25 Nm (250 kgf-cm, 18 ft. lbs.) for the 12 mm bolt while the 14 mm bolt requires 54 Nm (550 kgf-cm, 39 inch lbs.). Add coolant to the system while inspecting the entire engine for coolant leakages.
