2003 Toyota Camry Air Bag Parts Q&A
Q: What precautions should be taken when deploying and disposing of a front seat Air Bag assembly on 2003 Toyota Camry?
A: All disposal procedures of vehicles with SRS features or front seat air bag components must start with deploying air bags using the specialized SRS air bag deployment tool followed by immediate service dept. of Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. notification in case any unusual behavior occurs. Front seat air bag assemblies without deployment must never be discarded and deployment should be conducted outside the vehicle with a minimum distance of 10 m (33 ft) from the assembly during the procedure. The deployment of the air bag creates a sharp noise due to an explosive sound and the assembly requires at least 30 minutes of temperature reduction following the deployment. Gloves and safety glasses must be worn at all times when dealing with the deployed air bag assembly because hand washing is essential afterward. Perform air bag deployment by maintaining a battery power source while checking the special service tool functionality and disassembling the front seat before disconnecting the front seat air bag connector in a manner that protects the air bag wire harnesses. Connect both special service tool connectors to the air bag connector yet leave the secondary lock in its open state. Immediately move the tool at least 10 m (33 ft) away from the vehicle then secure the red clip to the positive (+) terminal while connecting the black clip to the negative (-) terminal of the battery. Press the activation switch on the special service tool while standing in the exclusion zone outside the passenger compartment where no people are present. This action triggers the air bag deployment at the same time the LED turns on. During discard procedures empty the front seat air bag assembly while preventing water contact to the system.
