- Q: How to replace the Parking Brake Cable Assembly No. 1 on 2003 Toyota 4Runner?A: The replacement process for Parking Brake Cable Assembly No. 1 starts by taking away the instrument panel safety pad sub-assembly together with air conditioning radiator assembly, air bag sensor assembly center and yawrate sensor and floor shift assembly and parking brake control pedal assembly. Start the parking brake cable assembly No. 1 replacement by disconnecting components including the lock nut followed by the adjusting nut then removing the clip before detaching from the parking brake control pedal assembly. Uninstall three bolts then two nuts from Parking Brake Cable Assembly No. 1 before detached lock nut and adjusting nut along with the assembly from the parking brake equalizer. Install the parking brake cable assembly No. 1 by positioning it correctly before temporarily tightening both the adjusting and lock nuts. Connect the two nuts and three bolts on the assembly while applying 6.0 Nm (61 kgf-cm, 53 inch lbs.) torque for the nuts and 13 Nm (127 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.) torque for the bolts. The assembly should be fixed to the parking brake control pedal assembly through the clip, adjusting nut, and lock nut while applying a torque of 13 Nm (127 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.). Complete installation by putting together the parking brake control pedal assembly, floor shift assembly, air bag sensor assembly center, yawrate sensor, air conditioning radiator assembly followed by the instrument panel safety pad sub-assembly. Verify parking brake pedal movement after assembly before conducting necessary adjustments and checking the SRS light.
