• Q: How to service and repair fuel injectors on 2002 Toyota RAV4?

  A: The PCV hose should be disconnected before starting fuel injector servicing or repair work. You need to remove the air cleaner assembly with MAF meter by first detaching the air cleaner cap with inlet and then taking out the air filter followed by MAF meter connector disconnect then unscrewing the 3 bolts of the air cleaner case and MAF meter bracket. The service procedure starts by disconnecting 4 injector connectors followed by removal of 2 delivery pipe-to-cylinder head bolts after which the delivery pipe and 4 injectors need to be carefully separated without dropping the injectors. Extract first the 2 spacers and 4 grommets before pulling out 4 injectors from the delivery pipe and removing their individual O-rings. When installing new O-rings you should apply spindle oil or gasoline lightly before placing them on each injector. The next step includes positioning 2 spacers and 4 grommets onto the cylinder head. Apply spindle oil or gasoline in small amounts to the O-ring part on the delivery pipe then insert the injectors while turning them clockwise. Install all four injectors carefully. Install the delivery pipe with attached injectors onto the cylinder head by connecting it while securing the surface with two temporary bolts. An inspection of injector movement must be made to verify smooth function of delivery pipes. If the injectors do not move freely replace the O-ring. Secure the delivery pipe by tightening the 2 bolts up to 20 N.m(205 kg.cm. 15 ft.lb). Then connect the 4 injector connectors to finish the installation. Install the air cleaner assembly by fastening the three air cleaner case bolts and restarting the MAF meter connection followed by putting the air filter in place then reinstate the air cleaner cap followed by reconnecting the PCV hose.
