2003 Toyota RAV4 Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the fuel injector on 2003 Toyota RAV4?
A: The fuel injector repair process requires users to start by detaching the PCV hose and uninstalling the air cleaner assembly with MAF meter through removal of the air cleaner cap and inlet followed by deletion of the air filter and disconnection of the MAF meter connector and unscrewing of the 3 bolts securing the air cleaner case with MAF meter and bracket. Due to the critical nature of injectors you should disconnect the 4 injector connectors and take out the 2 cylinder head delivery pipe retaining bolts before carefully removing the delivery pipe with its 4 installers from the cylinder head space. Avoid dropping the injectors. The 2 spacers should be removed together with the 4 grommets and 4 injectors need to be pulled out from the delivery pipe before finally taking the O-ring off each injector. After coating new O-rings with spindle oil or gasoline apply this lubrication before placing the rings onto each injector. Then install the O-rings and 2 spacers and 4 grommets onto the cylinder head. Use spindle oil or gasoline on the O-ring contact areas of delivery pipes then insert each injector into these pipes while rotating it clockwise before installing all 4 injectors. Install the delivery pipe with built-in 4 injectors onto the cylinder head while placing and tightening 2 bolts. Then verify smooth injector rotation; otherwise replace the O-ring. Secure the 2 bolts to 20 N.m (205 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf) torque and attach all 4 injector connectors. Reinstall the air cleaner assembly with the MAF meter by fastening the air cleaner case through its MAF meter and bracket using 3 bolts while connecting the MAF meter connector in addition to installing the air filter and placing the air cleaner cap on its air cleaner inlet. Finally, reconnect the PCV hose. The procedure for disconnecting the quick-type fuel tube connector requires the removal of the fuel pipe clamp followed by checking for dirt and mud near the connector before hand-disconnecting it without tools and using push and pull methods to loosen any stuck connectors. The disconnected pipe's seal surface requires inspection for dirt before you cover both disconnected pipe and connector using a vinyl bag to protect from contamination and damage.
