2002 Toyota Highlander Drive Belt Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Properly Service and Replace a Drive Belt on 2002 Toyota Highlander?
A: Start drive belt replacement by first taking out the front wheel RH together with the front fender apron seal RH. Bolts A and B must first be loosened to remove No. 1 V (cooler compressor to crankshaft pulley) belt before adjusting bolt C leads to the V-ribbed belt removal. Start by releasing bolts A and B on the vane pump V belt until it can be removed. Then take off the V-ribbed belt. The vane pump V belt installation requires placing the V-ribbed belt on each pulley followed by tension adjustment using a bar before torquing bolt B to 43 Nm (439 kgf-cm, 32 ft. lbs.) and then torquing bolt A to match the same value. The V (cooler compressor to crankshaft pulley) belt No. 1 requires positioning onto all pulleys before tightening adjusting bolt C and performing belt tension adjustment. Initial bolt tightening should start with A to 58 Nm (591 kgf-cm, 43 ft. lbs.) before proceeding to B's tightening to 18 Nm (184 kgf-cm, 13 ft. lbs.). The technician should inspect the drive belt deflection along with tension before reinstalling the front wheel RH, then torque the fastener to 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.).
