2002 Toyota Echo Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the Shock Absorber on 2002 Toyota Echo?
A: The first step to service or repair the suspension strut is to straighten the front wheel before moving forward to avoid breaking the steering gear. Cut off the front wheel before taking off the flexible hose and ABS speed sensor wire harness clamp from the shock absorber bracket by removing its bolt. Following the removal of the 2 nuts and 2 bolts from the shock absorber you can disconnect it from the steering knuckle before removing the 3 nuts which secure the shock absorber with coil spring. First place the shock absorber coil spring combination and fasten it with three nuts before torquing them to 39 Nm (400 kgf-cm, 29 ft. lbs.). Threads of both nuts should be treated with engine oil before you install the 2 bolts which reveals torque settings of 132 Nm (1,350 kgf-cm, 97 ft. lbs.). First install the front wheel by torquing it to 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.) before linking the ABS speed sensor wire harness clamp with the flexible hose to the shock absorber and torquing them to 29 Nm (300 kgf-cm, 22 ft. lbs.). The alignment test for the front wheels must be completed.
