2002 Toyota Corolla Throttle Body Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the throttle body on 2002 Toyota Corolla?
A: Service and repair operations for the throttle body begin with draining the engine coolant first. The service starts by disconnecting the accelerator cable followed by disconnecting the mass air flow meter connector along with the VSV connector for the canister closed valve and the air hose for EVAP from the air cleaner cap. To remove the air cleaner hose and cap from the throttle body begin by unbolt the clamp and secondly remove both air cleaner cap clips then disconnect the hose from the throttle body. The following step involves removing the throttle body once you disconnect the throttle position sensor connector and the IAC valve connector and the PCV hose from the throttle body and its accompanying two water bypass hoses. You must first disconnect the throttle body from the intake manifold by removing both its bolt and two nuts then removing its gasket. Follow these steps for installation by putting a new gasket with the protruding part facing down on the intake manifold and fastening the throttle body and accelerator cable bracket through bolt and two nuts while torquing at 21 N.m (210 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf). Attach the throttle body to its water bypass hoses, IAC valve connection and throttle position sensor cable and PCV hose assembly. Place the air cleaner hose back onto the throttle body before attaching the air cleaner cap with proper tightening of its two clips and air hose clamp bolts. The procedure ends by connecting the mass air flow meter connector and the VSV connector for the canister closed valve along with the air hose for EVAP to the air cleaner cap while the engine coolant is added to the radiator.
