  • Q: How to service and repair the Brake Master Cylinder on 2002 Toyota Celica?
A: Removing the battery together with disconnecting the level warning switch connector represents the starting point for Brake Master Cylinder service and repair. Use a syringe to extract fluid as you avoid letting brake fluid contact painted areas. You must start by disconnecting the reservoir hose before breaking lines for manual transmission. Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 can be used to remove the 5 brake lines from the master cylinder and 3-way union with a torque specification of 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.) unless the vehicle has ABS. The same 09023-00100 tool must be used to disconnect brake lines from the master cylinder in vehicles with ABS at a torque of 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.). To detach the master cylinder begin by unscrewing its 2 mounting nuts which should be tightened with a torque of 13 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.). The removal procedure consists of the check valve bracket and three-way along with master cylinder for vehicles without ABS and the check valve bracket and master cylinder only for vehicles with ABS. Place the master cylinder gasket aside before you extract the reservoir stopper from its holes while installing the master cylinder. The reservoir plus both grommets should be extracted from the unit before removing the cap and strainer which fit onto the reservoir. Before installing the system you should adjust the length of the brake booster push rod then proceed with assembly. A proper brake fluid filling must be performed after setup followed by brake system bleaching. Next, check for leakage and adjust the brake pedal towards the end.
