2001 Toyota Celica Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Brake Master Cylinder on 2001 Toyota Celica?
A: The first step for Brake Master Cylinder servicing requires you to remove the battery and disconnect the level warning switch connector. Introduction of fluid should happen with a syringe while avoiding brake fluid contact with painted components. You need to remove the reservoir hose in manual transmission vehicles before taking apart the brake line. The brake lines from the master cylinder and 3-way union should be disconnected through Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 with a torque setting of 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.) in vehicles without ABS but only 2 brake lines detached from the master cylinder in vehicles with ABS using the same torque value. The master cylinder removal process begins with 2 mounting nut installation using 13 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.) torque; for vehicles with ABS the check valve bracket stays while for vehicles without ABS the check valve bracket and 3-way along with master cylinder are extracted. The gasket should also be removed from the master cylinder. The reservoir stopper removal occurs while keeping in mind that installation requires a proper stopper positioning through reservoir and master cylinder grooves. Remove the reservoir together with its grommets after which remove the cap and strainer. Following removal step-by-step the installation involves adapation of the brake booster push rod length before installing along with brake fluid filling into the brake reservoir and brake system bleeding followed by a leak check and lastly brake pedal adjustment.
