2002 Toyota Camry Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the front wheel speed sensor on 2002 Toyota Camry?
A: The first step of front-wheel speed sensor replacement involves removing the front wheel and left-hand side fender liner. Disengage the speed sensor connector followed by removal of its clamp. After that, remove the two bolts which secure the sensor harness and clamp to the body structure and shock absorber. After removing the left-hand side bolt you should take out the speed sensor and verify that the sensor tip does not acquire any foreign substances during this step. The new speed sensor must be attached to its bolt and secured with a torque of 8.0 Nm (82 kgf-cm, 71 inch lbs.) while maintaining a clean sensor tip. Secure the sensor harness clamps by using Bolt A requiring 5.0 Nm (51 kgf-cm, 44 inch lbs.) torque while Bolt B requires 18.8 Nm (192 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs.) torque. After securing the clamps, connect them to the knuckle before reattaching the speed sensor connector and clamp. Replace the front fender liner and front wheel by tightening bolts to 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.). Test the ABS speed sensor signal as the final step.
