2002 Toyota Avalon Brake Fluid Pump Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the brake fluid pump on 2002 Toyota Avalon?
A: Start the brake fluid pump service and repair procedure by removing the air cleaner case followed by the air cleaner hose and then uninstalling the master cylinder. Disconnect the precharge pump connector before taking out the precharge pump assembly by loosening the 3 bolts to 19 Nm (195 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs.). Special Service Tool: 09751-36011 should be used to disconnect the 2 brake lines from the precharge pump by tightening the 10 mm nut to 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.) and the 12 mm nut to 20 Nm (200 kgf-cm, 15 ft. lbs.). Eliminate the precharge pump by first unscrewing and unbolting the 2 nuts and 2 bolts at 13 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.), then disassemble the 2 holders, 2 collars, 2 washers, and 4 cushions. A 30 mm deeper socket wrench should be used for master cylinder pressure sensor and O-ring removal while applying 81 Nm of torque (830 kgf-cm or 60 ft. lbs.) after securely placing the precharge pump in a vise with cloth. After completion follow the opposite sequence of removal while performing fluid filling of the brake reservoir followed by brake system bleeding and checking for fluid leaks.
