2003 Toyota Avalon Brake Fluid Pump Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the brake fluid pump on 2003 Toyota Avalon?
A: The brake fluid pump servicing process starts with air cleaner case and air cleaner hose removal before removing the master cylinder. The precharge pump connector must be disconnected before uninstalling the precharge pump assembly by loosening its 3 bolts at a torque of 19 Nm (195 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs.). The precharge pump brake line connection requires Special Service Tool: 09751-36011 to separate them from the precharge pump while applying 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.) to the 10 mm nut and 20 Nm (200 kgf-cm, 15 ft. lbs.) to the 12 mm nut. The precharge pump removal process includes disconnection of its 2 nuts and 2 bolts while tightening them with 13 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.) and 8.0 Nm (82 kgf-cm, 71 inch lbs.) torque respectively. Later remove the 2 holders, 2 collars, 2 washers, and 4 cushions. Apply the socket wrench to remove the master cylinder pressure sensor by securing the precharge pump with a cotton-wrapped vise. Use a 30mm deep socket for the operation under 81Nm torque (830 kgf-cm, 60 ft. lbs.). Installments are executed by reversing dismantling steps then fluid must be added to the brake reservoir before performing a brake system bleed and carefully inspecting all fluid-deducting points.
