2001 Toyota Tundra Brake Master Cylinder Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the Brake Master Cylinder on 2001 Toyota Tundra?
A: The Brake Master Cylinder servicing process starts with removing the reservoir by applying sufficient torque to its set screw while pulling it out. Proceed by taking out the reservoir strainer and cap before you can take out two grommets. Use a screwdriver to push the pistons inside the cylinder completely and after that remove the stopper bolt and gasket with 10 Nm (100 kgf-cm, 7 ft. lbs.) torque while the cylinder is held by a vise. When handling pistons and springs users must push the piston using a screwdriver and apply snap ring pliers while taping the screwdriver tip beforehand. Take the No. 1 piston and spring out by pulling vertically to prevent damaging the cylinder bore. During No. 2 piston and spring removal strike the cylinder near wooden support blocks which must rest on a rag at a 100 mm (3.94 inch) distance. The bore must be checked for rust as well as scoring before cleaning the area before executing a replacement if required. Similarly, cylinder inspection should include assessment for wear or damage with necessary cleaning or replacement steps. During reassembly, follow the steps of disassembly yet start with the rubber parts that have arrows for lubrication with lithium soap base glycol grease.
