2001 Toyota Tacoma Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to Service and Repair the Air Bag Sensor Assembly on 2001 Toyota Tacoma?
A: The first step to work on Air Bag Sensor Assembly repair requires removal of both front console box and lower center cover. The service and repair of double cab rear heater ducts requires the 2 bolt removal. During repair of the Air Bag sensor assembly users should first disconnect its three connectors while keeping the sensor assembly connector. Use a Torx wrench (T40, Part No. 09042-00020 or local manufacturer tool) to remove the 3 screws which secure the Air Bag sensor assembly and wait to place the bolt on the No.1 brace until its later installation. Install the new Air Bag sensor assembly through using the same Torx wrench which allows securing with 3 screws at 20 N.m (205 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf). Reinstall the No.1 brace bolt before proceeding with 3 connector attachment when the sensor assembly is correctly positioned. Verify proper torque on the sensor assembly while discarding it for a new unit when evidence reveals either dropped condition or damage to the assembly. Shake the sensor assembly after installation to verify the absence of any slack followed by a examination of the SRS wires to ensure both their smooth flow and their absence of pinches from other components. Finally, reinstall any removed parts.
