2001 Toyota Tacoma Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the A/C Condenser on 2001 Toyota Tacoma?
A: The HVAC condenser repair process starts by draining the refrigerant from the refrigeration system followed by evacuation before adding 600 plus or minus 50 g (21.16 plus or minus 1.76 oz.) of refrigerant then leak testing must be performed. Start the HVAC condenser service by taking out the radiator grille as well as the horn setup and hood lock set bolts and center brace assembly. Detach both liquid tubes from the receiver by removing its two bolts which require torquing at 6.0 N.m (60 kgf.cm, 52 in.lbf) then cap open fittings to stop moisture or foreign materials from accessing the system. The compressor oil should be used to lubricate two new O-rings before their installation into the tubes. Adjust the two nuts before taking out the liquid tubes while tightening them to 14 N.m (140 kgf.cm, 10 ft.lbf). Then reinstate the caps to these open fittings. Separate the condenser discharge hose by firstly removing the piping clamp set bolt and secondly taking off the hose securing bolt and finally torquing both to 10 N.m (100 kgf.cm, 7 ft.lbf). Finally, secure the open fitting with a cap. The procedure to remove the condenser involves first detaching the clamping bolt of the liquid tube and after that unfastening and extracting the two condenser mounting bolts before pulling out the condenser unit. The new condenser should receive an oil addition of 40 to 50 cc ND-OIL 8 or equivalent compressor fluid at minimum. The process of installation follows the opposite sequence of the removal steps.
