2001 Toyota Prius Air Bag Parts Q&A

  • Q: How Should You Properly Deploy an Air Bag When Scrapping a Vehicle on 2001 Toyota Prius?
A: It is mandatory to use the Special Service Tool: 09082-00700 (SRS Air Bag Deployment Tool) in outdoor areas before scrapping vehicles with SRS or disposing of side Air Bags through its initial Air Bag deployment process. Examine the Special Service Tool functionality through its operation by attaching the red clip to the battery positive (+) terminal and the black clip to the battery negative (-) terminal yet maintain separation from the yellow connector which connects to the supplemental restraint system. Conduct this operation while using a prepared battery as a power source. Press the activation switch although the LED should come on only with an activation; unsuitable tool usage exists when the LED lights without activation. Remove the tool from battery power before unconnecting the side Air Bag connector with attention toward protecting the Air Bag wire harness. Connect the installation connectors of Special Service Tools 09082-00700 along with 09082-00750 to the Air Bag connector but leave the secondary lock unlocked to protect from damage. Plug in the tool into the battery only after it reaches a ten-meter (33-foot) interval from the vehicle and fully close doors and windows. Deploy the Air Bag only when no people remain inside the vehicle and no one stands 10 m (33 ft) away from it by using the activation switch to initiate the Air Bag deployment. Inspect the side Air Bag assembly on deployment since it becomes extremely hot before waiting thirty minutes while using protective gloves and safety glasses for handling and keeping water away from it followed by thorough handwashing with water. The Air Bag needs to be deployed before you scrap an automotive while still having the side Air Bag assembly installed. The Special Service Tool activation switch illuminates its LED while the Air Bag activates at the same time.
