2001 Toyota Land Cruiser Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Neutral Safety Switch on 2001 Toyota Land Cruiser?
A: Start service procedures on the Transmission Position Switch/Sensor by detaching the No. 2 engine cover and then disassemble the transmission control shaft lever. The first step disconnects the park/neutral position switch connector before proceeding to remove the park/neutral position switch by unscrewing the nut and prying off the lock washer and removing both the switch and bolt. The new park/neutral position switch requires a bolt which should be torqued at 13 Nm before attaching a new lock plate and nut with 3.9 Nm torque followed by bending the plate's claws to secure the nut. Approved procedures state to place the new park/neutral position switch before reattaching its connector and installing the transmission control shaft lever by first adjusting the shift lever position with 16 Nm (160 kgf-cm, 12 ft. lbs.) resistance on the park/neutral position switch side while applying 13 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.) on the transmission control rod side. The No. 2 engine under cover needs to be reinstalled as the last step.
