- Q: How to service and repair the Throttle Cable/linkage on 2001 Toyota Corolla?A: Start the service and repair process of the throttle cable/linkage by detaching both the engine throttle cable and manual shift lever control cable. The next step requires removal of the park/neutral position switch followed by ATF draining through the drain plug extraction. Subsequently, extract the valve body. First remove the throttle cable retaining bolt after which the cable can be gently pulled out. When putting in a new throttle cable you should bend it to 200 mm (7.87 inches) curvature then draw the inner cable gently until a light resistance develops before securing the stopper at 0.8 - 1.5 mm (0.031 - 0.059 inch) distance from the outer cable end. Secure the new throttle cable through its retaining bolt while pulling it into position and torque it to 10 Nm (100 kgf-cm, 7 ft. lbs.). Replace the valve body together with the park/neutral position switch before you attach the control cable to the manual shift lever. Reinstall the throttle cable which leads to the engine before you install a drain plug that requires a torque setting of 17 Nm (175 kgf-cm, 13 ft. lbs.). To complete the procedure you need to fill ATF before checking fluid level then perform any required throttle cable adjustment.
