- Q: How to service the brake caliper on 2001 Toyota Corolla?A: The brake caliper repair requires connection removal of the flexible hose through disassembly of its union bolt along with both gaskets from the caliper while torquing the assembly to 30 Nm (310 kgf-cm, 22 ft. lbs.) and positioning the flexible hose lock properly in the lock hole before reassembly. A suitable container should be used to collect brake fluid when it drains. The service begins with removing the caliper and its installation bolts which need torque of 34 Nm (350 kgf-cm, 25 ft. lbs.) before separating the caliper from the torque plate. First detach both brake pads from their position while also taking out the four anti-squeal shims plus the two pad support plates. Follow the uninstallation steps in reverse order to proceed with installation and finish by adding brake fluid to the reservoir then bleeding the brake system while inspecting for any fluid leakage.
