2001 Toyota Corolla Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the A/C Accumulator on 2001 Toyota Corolla?
A: The first procedure for A/C accumulator maintenance includes draining the refrigerant from the refrigeration system. Use caution to eliminate contamination by sealing both open connections immediately following condenser nut and A/C accumulator bolt removal of the liquid tube connecting them. Users must remove the A/C accumulator to cooling unit bolt along with capping away the open fittings. Completely remove the A/C accumulator by uninstalling its A/C accumulator holder combined with its bolts from the equipment. To install the A/C accumulator with its holder use the bolt before adding 20 cc (1.7 fl. oz.) ND-OIL 8 compressor oil or its equivalent if changing the A/C accumulator. The connection of liquid tube between A/C accumulator and cooling unit requires compressor oil to lubricate a new O-ring before installation into tubes while using a bolt tightened to 5.4 N.m (55 kg.cm, 48 in.lb). The A/C accumulator installation requires lubrication of two new O-rings with compressor oil before they are placed on the tubes followed by fastening the bolt to secure the liquid tube to the A/C accumulator while tightening the bolt to 5.4 N.m (55 kg.cm, 48 in.lb) then tightly torquing the nut to 14 N.m (140 kg.cm, 10 ft.lb). The last step involves evacuating air from the refrigeration system for charging with the correct amount of 650 plus or minus 50 g (22.93 plus or minus 1.76 oz.) refrigerant while conducting leak detection inspections.
