2001 Toyota Celica Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to remove and install the front Air Bag sensor on 2001 Toyota Celica?
A: First disconnect the SRS wiring connector after turning the ignition switch OFF because doing so prevents the recording of DTCs. Restitutions must use new sensor components rather than repairing previously damaged sensors from a collision accident. The left-hand side requires removing the air cleaner hose together with the air cleaner cap and filter and two air cleaner case bolts before disconnecting the connector with sensor assembly in place. One must disconnect the front Air Bag sensor LH from its mounting location after removing the two bolts. The process for the right-hand side requires removing five clips and the upper front fender apron seal before disconnecting the sensor assembly connector while maintaining the sensor installed to remove the two bolts which will extract the front Air Bag sensor RH. Install the front Air Bag sensors LH and RH with four bolts which require 20 N.m (205 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf) torque and connect the sensor connector when placing the sensor assembly where the lock must secure properly to prevent malfunction codes. The arrow on the front sensor needs to be positioned forward when you install it on the vehicle. Begin by mounting the headlights through use of four bolts together with two screws before proceeding to install the air cleaner case with two bolts followed by the air filter and the air cleaner cap and hose and finishing with the upper front fender apron seal secured by five clips.
