2001 Toyota Camry Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and reinstall a windshield on 2001 Toyota Camry?
A: Take all inner components detachable from the space around the rear-view mirror before starting windshield removal. Keep removing the wiper arms, cowl louvers, Weather Strips (you must pull only the front section), weatherproofed primer, and then cut off the top and side moudling. Use a small dia. 5.0 mm (0.20 in.) drill to cut rivet heads in the windshield outside moulding and finish by vaccum cleaning the remaining debris staying away from the trimmed rivet and cutter. Use a knife to cut through the windshield upper moulding while avoiding harm to body parts. You can split the windshield glass from inside by inserting piano wire between the glass and vehicle body then fixing the wire ends to a wood block to remove the glass while protecting the surface with adhesive tape. Thread the piano wire through the adhesive until it cuts through and remove the glass while keeping as much adhesive intact on the body surface. Prepare the body contact area by smoothing out roughness and wiping it with a shop rag dipped in cleaner. You can replace the broken stopper by first taking it off then using tools to cut off and clean the old adhesive, follow by placing a new stopper in its place. Clean the detached glass using scraping tools before handling it again. Check how the glass rests on its proper position and verify all contact areas before putting the marks and taking it out again. Apply cleaner to the space around the glass trim and hang up double-stick tape on the barrier. Brush Primer M onto the body contact surface and keep it dry for 3 minutes. Apply factory-manufactured adhesive from the specified cartridge (Part No. 08850 - 00801) to the glass edge using Primer G until it dries up. Use reference marks to set the glass properly then press it lightly into place while putting adhesive on the rim with a tool before removing extra material. Use protective tape to hold the windshield while the adhesive cures up and test for leaks afterward using sealant Part No 08833 - 00030 and equivalents. Place adhesive at the molding area then tap the windshield upper molding into position before attaching the outside molding by setting the pawl to the upper molding and securely inserting three new rivets while keeping hands out of the installation region. Reattach the cowl louvers and Weather Strips afterward you replace the wiper arms and tighten them to 24 N.m torque. Also reinstall front pillar garnishes and place back map light assembly with sun visor, holders, and inner rear view mirror.
