2000 Toyota Camry Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and reinstall a windshield on 2000 Toyota Camry?
A: Before removing the windshield you must take apart the inner rear view mirror, sun visors, map light assembly, front pillar garnishes, hood, wiper assemblies, cowl louvers, Weather Strips, and front half of Weather Strip only. Use a clean Dia 5.0 mm (.20 inch) drill to remove windshield outside moulding rivets but stop before cutting into the cut rivet or rivet tool. Afterward vacuum away all debris while keeping the instruments safe from accidental contact. Carefully cut the windshield upper moulding with a knife and feed piano wire from inside to outside through the body and glass space. Tie both ends of the wire to a wooden block. Place tape on the outer surface to shield from scratches and use piano wire to cut the adhesive once the glass is out to retain as much adhesive near the body. Clean the body contact surface and shape it properly keeping most of the adhesive while you replace the damaged plug by taking it out to install a new one. Wipe the detached glass using a scraper plus cleaner but make sure not to handle the piece afterward. Check if the glass fits evenly and mark its position before wiping clean around the rim using a special cleaner. Apply double-stick tape to the dam first and use Primer M to coat the body contact area before drying it for 3 minutes. Use Primer G to treat the glass edge then remove the excess before it dries. Use the cartridge filled with Part No. 08850-00801 to apply the adhesive before setting the glass at its reference points. Gently push the glass and apply adhesive from a spatula to smooth it before removing the excess with the scraper. Press the glass securely using tape before the glue sets up completely. Test the windshield for leaks and fix them with Part No. 08833-00030. Put adhesive at the moulding installation spot then tap in the windshield upper moulding followed by placing the outside moulding and installing its pawl while using a new riveter away from hand reach. Complete assembly by replacing cowl louvers, Weather Strips, wiper arms after tightening screws at 24 N.m, front pillar trim, interior map light components, roof sun blinds and holders, and the rearview mirror inside the cabin.
