2002 Toyota Camry Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace a windshield on 2002 Toyota Camry?
A: The windshield replacement process starts by removing the FR wiper arms from both side (RH and LH) and continuing with removal of the cowl top ventilator louver sub-assembly and front door opening trim Weather Strips from both sides (RH and LH). The replacement process requires removing front pillar garnishes (including those with and without curtain shield air bags) and roof console box assembly and both visor assemblies and visor holder as well. The windshield procedure requires removing the roof headlining assembly and inner rear view mirror assembly together with the front pillar garnishes (both RH and LH). Use a knife to cut through the outer upper windshield moulding while protecting the body before finishing the removal. Perform windshield glass removal by inserting a piano wire between body and glass from inside the vehicle then tape the exterior surface before affixing wire ends to wooden blocks while pulling wire around adhesive to break it before vacuuming out the glass while allowing maximum adhesive to stay on the body structure. Before using white gasoline for outer cleaning avoid letting the liquid touch the glass and first remove the damaged stoppers, dam, and adhesive from the windshield glass. Apply Primer G coating to the installation sections of stoppers No.2 and secure them to the glass after waiting for at least three minutes. Install these stoppers next to stoppers No.1 already positioned on the body. Place two new windshield glass retainers on the glass after applying Primer G to the installation parts for drying. Use a suction rubber to place the glass in position while checking for uniformity between contact surfaces. Then mark the reference points before cleaning the body contact surfaces and leaving as much adhesive available. First coat the contact surface of the back door and vehicle side with Primer M before permitting its drying period followed by a Primer G application on the glass surface and another dry time. The sealer gun receives its cartridge and the adhesive tip gets cut off before applying adhesive onto the glass surface. Position the glass while focusing on reference points then push it lightly around the edge until the stoppers fit correctly while verifying the space between body and glass. A scraper will gently eliminate any remaining excess adhesive from the glass front surface which has been lightly pressed into its appropriate position. The last step requires you to add a new windshield molding to the glass during adhesive set while securing the glass with tape and scraping off surplus adhesive before it dries. Check for leaks through an inspection test once the adhesive reaches full hardness then apply sealant to fix any detected leaks.
