- Q: How to service and repair the rear Sway Bar Kit on 2001 Toyota Avalon?A: Start service or repair of the rear sway bar kit by removing rear wheels then secure them with 103 Nm Torque (1,050 kgf-cm or 76 ft. lbs). The sway bar links must be taken off by removing each of the two nuts and sway bar link with care because using a hexagon (5mm) wrench along with 39 Nm (400 kgf-cm, 29ft.lbs.) torque on the stud helps prevent ball joint motion. Perform the same sequence of steps on the sway bar link of the other side. The procedure includes detaching brackets and bushings by removing 2 bolts and bracket while applying torque of 19 Nm (195 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs.) and maintaining correct bushing placement facing the sway bar kit exterior. Perform this procedure once more on the different side. The sway bar kit must now be taken off next. The inspection of the ball joint on sway bar links requires moving the ball joint stud 5 times in both directions before you tighten the nut. Application of the torque wrench requires a slow and continuous turn of 2 to 4 seconds per full rotation to measure the required torque value on the fifth revolution within the range of 0.05 to 1.0 Nm (0.5 to 10 kgf-cm or 0.4 to 8.7 inch lbs.). The reverse process of removal should be used when putting components back in place.
