How to service and repair the rear Sway Bar Kit on Toyota Avalon? Posted by Customer
    A:
One should start sway bar kit service and repair by taking off rear wheels at 103 Nm (1,050 kgf.cm, 76 ft. lbs.). First remove the sway bar links by taking off their 2 nuts and link then if the ball joint turns with the nut maintain stability with a hexagon (5 mm) wrench to hold the stud applying a torque of 39 Nm (400 kgf.cm, 29 ft. lbs.). Follow this procedure also for the sway bar kit on the opposite side. First take off the 2 bolts and bracket then bushing while applying torque of 19 Nm (195 kgf.cm, 14 ft. lbs.) and ensure the bushing faces outward from the sway bar kit. This must be repeated on the opposite side. Proceed to apply the same procedure to the second side. The sway bar kit should be taken off next. Before installing the sway bar link ball joint nut inspectors need to conduct an inspection by rotating the ball joint stud through five cycles in both directions. A torque wrench should be operated at a speed of 2 - 4 seconds per turn to achieve a turning torque between 0.05 Nm - 1.0 Nm (0.5 kgf.cm - 10 kgf.cm and 0.4 inch lbs. - 8.7 inch lbs.). The reverse sequence of removal methods needs to be followed for installation completion.
