2001 Toyota Avalon Shock Absorber Parts Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Shock Absorber on 2001 Toyota Avalon?
A: Service and repair of the suspension strut starts with wheel removal then application of 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs. torque). The bolt securing the flexible hose and ABS speed sensor wire harness clamp to the shock absorber must be removed while torquing the bolt to 29 Nm (300 kgf-cm, 22 ft. lbs.). Disconnection of the stabilizer bar link from the shock absorber should be followed by removing the shock absorber from the steering knuckle through the lower side 2 nuts and bolts application of torque at 211 Nm (2,150 kgf-cm, 156 ft. lbs.). The first step of reinstallation requires oiling the threads of the nut before installation. First conduct shock absorber and coil spring extraction after removing all 3 nuts while applying 80 Nm torque (820 kgf-cm at 59 ft. lbs.). The suspension support needs to be rotated until it reaches the correct alignment during installation. A wheel alignment check must be done on the front wheels while steering angle sensor calibration for VSC requires performing zero point calibration.
