• Q: How to service and repair the throttle body on 2001 Toyota 4Runner?

  A: The first step in servicing or repairing a throttle body requires the engine coolant to drain out completely. Start the throttle body service by removing the air cleaner hose then disconnecting the throttle body through removing the throttle position sensor connector coupled with the throttle control motor connector and accelerator pedal position sensor connector next to disconnecting the air hose followed by removal of the two water bypass hoses. Remove two bolts and two nuts together with the throttle body along with its gasket. Insert a new gasket onto the air intake chamber so its protrusion faces upward before you install the throttle body with the two bolts and two nuts fastened to 18 N.m (180 kgf.cm, 13 ft.lbf). After connection of the throttle position sensor connector and throttle control motor connector you must reconnect the accelerator pedal position sensor connector and the air hose together with the two water bypass hoses. Finally, connect the accelerator cable to the throttle body and reinstall the air cleaner hose while also filling with engine coolant and checking for leaks during the start-up.
