- Q: How to remove and install the front Air Bag sensor on 2001 Toyota 4Runner?A: The front Air Bag sensor removal starts by removing the hold down clamp and battery and battery tray for the LH side followed by disconnection from the sensor connector with the sensor assembly still installed. The front Air Bag sensor attachment requires removal of its two retaining bolts. You must first remove the air cleaner assembly along with the air hose and disconnect the front Air Bag sensor connector according to the previous steps before removing the 2 bolts to detach the front Air Bag sensor. Fit the front Air Bag sensor so its arrow points forward and torque it to 20 N.m (205 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf). The connector needs to attach only after sensor installation completes along with verification that installation torque meets the specified value. A new sensor must replace the existing one whenever the sensor displays droop damage indicators. The diagnostic system can detect a malfunction code if the front Air Bag sensor connector connection check mechanism remains unlocked during installation. Finally, reinstall all removed parts.
