2001 Toyota 4Runner Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the Air Bag Sensor Assembly on 2001 Toyota 4Runner?
A: Service and repair of the Air Bag Sensor Assembly requires removing the upper console panel, parking brake hole cover together with the rear console box, console panel garnish, ash receptacle box and center cluster finish panel. Follow the procedure to disconnect the Air Bag sensor connector but keep the assembly inside as you extract the connection. You can remove the three screws which secure the Air Bag sensor assembly using a T40 torx wrench that has Part No.09042-00020 or its local equivalent. The T40 torx wrench directs the installation process which requires screwing the Air Bag sensor assembly with three screws while applying 21 N.m (210 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf) torque. After completing sensor assembly installation, connect the Air Bag sensor connector. The sensor assembly needs to be secured with the designated torque values but owners should purchase a new sensor when they detect any damage or sensors that were dropped. The SRS wiring should be inspected for safe placement without obstruction from other parts during installation. After installation shake the sensor assembly to check for loose components. Finish by installing all components that were previously taken off.
