2000 Toyota Solara Brake Master Cylinder Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the Brake Master Cylinder on 2000 Toyota Solara?
A: Begin Brake Master Cylinder Brake Service by removing the reservoir by unscrewing its set screw followed by a pull action and then removing the cap and strainer. Next, remove the 2 grommets. Set the cylinder in a vise then push the pistons inside with a screwdriver. The piston stopper bolt and gasket can then be taken out but start by taping the screwdriver tip first. Use snap ring pliers to extract the snap ring following piston compression by screwdriver operation and carefully pull the number one piston along with its spring straight out while maintaining a straight direction to protect the cylinder bore from harm. Place a rag and two wooden blocks on the work surface and administer a gentle tap to the cylinder flange against wooden block edges until it exits. Maintain at least 100 mm (3.94 inches) distance from the rag to the top blocks. The TRAC model requires a screwdriver to push the piston while removing 2 straight pins by turning over the cylinder followed by straight pulling of 2 pistons and springs. The cleaning process starts with compressed air on all parts followed by cylinder bore rust and scoring inspections and a search for damage or wear that requires replacement of the cylinder. For reassembly install the cylinder into a vise while placing models without TRAC into it first. Then apply the indicated rubber components with lithium soap base glycol grease. Next use a screwdriver to push the two pistons and springs into the cylinder body and finish the assembly by installing the snap ring with snap ring pliers but be cautious not to damage the piston rubber lips in the process. Add the piston stopper bolt with its attached gasket as you fully insert the piston then torque it to 10 Nm (100 kilogramforce-centimeter, 7 foot-pounds). The cylinder body for TRAC modelos needs installation of 2 pistons with springs before pushing the piston inside with a screwdriver and adding the straight pins which must face elliptic holes vertically. Put in the 2 grommets before installing the reservoir through its strainer cap followed by reservoir attachment and set screw tightening at 1.7 N m torques (18 kgf-cm, 16 inch lbs.).
