2000 Toyota Solara Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the vacuum brake booster on 2000 Toyota Solara?
A: You must begin service by taking out the air cleaner cover along with its hose followed by removing the master cylinder. You must disconnect the vacuum hose at the brake booster while you take off the cowl side trim along with No. 1 and lower panels, plus the lower panel insert. Easily disconnect the cruise control ECU by unscrewing its 2 mountings. Untwist the pedal return spring before taking off the clip, 2 wave washers and clevis pin. To remove the brake booster you must first take off its gasket and clevis by loosening all 4 nuts and the clevis. Push the brake booster out with the gasket. Start by installing the new gasket onto the master cylinder followed by attaching the brake booster with its new gasket. Then affix the clevis to the operating rod and torquing the booster installation nuts to 9 ft. lbs at 130 kgf-cm. Fasten the clevis while tightening the lock nut to 25 Nm force (260 kgf-cm torque or 19 ft. lbs. torque). Slide the clevis pin into the washer set pair and brake components before adding the clip and pedal return part. Use a new gasket under the master cylinder to adjust booster push rod length according to these steps: place Special Service Tool: 09737-00010 on the gasket, lower the pin until its tip lightly touches the piston. Set Special Service Tool: 09737-00010 upside down on the booster and measure the pushrod-clearance against booster pin head which should be precisely zero mm each time. Adjust pushrod length until it rests against the pin lightly. Attach the master cylinder before setting on the air cleaner cover with air cleaner hose and vacuum hose to the brake booster. Add brake fluid to the reservoir then test the brake system for fluid leaks while setting the pedal position to specification. Place the cruise control ECU with 2 nuts then tighten them to 5 Nm of torque before adding the lower panel insert upper panel and side cowl trim. After that run the system diagnostic test.
