2000 Toyota Sienna Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install the axle shaft on 2000 Toyota Sienna?
A: Start the axle shaft installation process by using Special Service Tool: 09608-16042 (09608-02021, 09608-02041) to support the hub bearing unless the vehicle weight needs to rest on it. The first step involves wheel removal then torquing front wheel bolts to 104 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 77 ft. lbs.). The procedure to remove the drive shaft lock nut begins by removing the cotter pin and lock cap before applying brakes to unscrew it with 294 Nm torque. The first step is to drain the ATF and you must remove the bolt and ABS speed sensor while torquing this hardware to 7.8 Nm (80 kgf-cm, 69 inch lbs.). Start by using a plastic hammer to detach the drive shaft from the axle hub where you should cover the drive shaft boot with cloth. After that you must disconnect both the tie rod end from the steering knuckle and the lower ball joint from the lower suspension arm. To disconnect the drive shaft from the axle hub you should push the front axle hub towards the outside. Before installing the left-hand drive shaft, use a brass bar and hammer to remove it and coat gear oil on specific surfaces during installation. Set the snap ring with its opening facing downward along with performing checks for featuring 2 - 3 mm (0.08 - 0.12 inch) of axial play after completing the process. You must remove the bearing lock bolt from the right-hand drive shaft with 32 Nm torque (330 kgf-cm, 24 ft. lbs.). Then apply pliers to eliminate the snap ring before extracting the drive shaft while reapplying gear oil for installation. Perform the reverse order of installation for removal steps while running checks on the ABS speed sensor signal and front wheel alignment after completion.
