2000 Toyota Sienna A/C Clutch Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the A/C Clutch on 2000 Toyota Sienna?
A: The service and repair process for the compressor clutch begins by allowing the engine to operate at idle speed with A/C activation for 10 minutes while you subsequently disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal cable. The service begins with refrigerant discharge from the refrigeration system and drive belt removal before disconnecting the discharge and suction hoses that require 2 bolt removal and fitting capping to stop moisture or dirt contamination. Start by detaching the generator connector then remove the nut alongside the generator wire before separating the wire harness from its clip and finally extracting the pivot bolt, plate washer and adjusting lock bolt and generator from their position. The compressor removal sequence starts with disconnecting the connector which is then followed by removing the 2 bolts and nut and drive belt adjusting bar bracket before the ultimate removal of the 3 bolts and compressor. The first step of installation involves securing the compressor to the vehicle with three bolts that must be torqued to 25 Nm (250 kg.cm, 18 ft.lb). Next, install the generator drive belt adjusting bar bracket using two bolts and a nut. To complete this part of assembly, tighten Bolt (A) to 18 Nm (185 kg.cm, 13 ft.lb) and Bolt (B) to 25 Nm (250 kg.cm, 18 ft.lb) while the nut reaches 25 Nm (250 kg.cm, 18 ft.lb). Insert the generator to the generator bracket while using the pivot bolt and adjusting lock bolt but do not tighten binding yet before connecting the generator connector and generator wire with the nut. Use compressor oil to lubricate 2 new O-rings which should be installed to the hoses before attaching both hoses with 2 bolts secured at 10 Nm (100 kg.cm, 7 ft.lb). The procedures for completing the repairs sequence include installing and verifying the drive belt followed by reattaching the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery and vacuuming the refrigeration system while charging with specified amounts of refrigerant: Single A/C: 800 plus or minus 50 g (28.22 plus or minus 1.76 oz.) Dual A/C (4 Door): 1,250 plus or minus 50 g (44.09 plus or minus 1.76 oz.) Dual A/C (5 Door): 1,350 plus or minus 50 g (47.61 plus or minus 1.76 oz.). The final steps include using a gas detector to inspect for leaks then checking the junction torques when leaks are discovered followed by an A/C operation check.
