2000 Toyota Echo Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the Shock Absorber on 2000 Toyota Echo?
A: Start the suspension strut service and repair work by orienting the front wheel forward to avoid damages to the steering gear. The first step involves disconnecting both the flexible hose and ABS speed sensor wire harness clamp after removing the bolt securing them. First disconnect the shock absorber with tight coil spring by unfastening 2 nuts and bolts from the steering knuckle and afterward unfastening 3 nuts to remove the shock absorber with the coil spring. Place the shock absorber with coil spring and fasten it by tightening 3 nuts to 39 Nm (400 kgf.cm, 29 ft. lbs.). Begin shock absorber connection with the steering knuckle before applying engine oil to the 2 nuts' threading points. Then install the 2 bolts and nuts, tightening them to 132 Nm (1,350 kgf.cm, 97 ft. lbs.). After connecting the ABS speed sensor wire harness clamp to the shock absorber mount, coil-spring installation proceeds with torquing to 29 Nm (300 kgf.cm, 22 ft. lbs.). End the procedure by installing the front wheel then torquing it to 103 Nm (1,050 kgf.cm, 76 ft. lbs.). Finally, inspect the front wheel alignment.
