- Q: How to service and repair the A/C Clutch on 2000 Toyota Echo?A: The first step to service and repair the compressor clutch consists of two procedures. First run the engine at idle speed with A/C active for 10 minutes followed by engine stoppage and battery negative terminal cable disconnection. Evacuate refrigerant gas from the refrigeration system after which you must remove the engine under cover along with disconnecting the drive belt. The first step is disconnecting the suction and discharge hoses from the compressor by unbolted the 2 fasteners while immediately placing caps on open fittings to stop system entry of moisture or dirt. Disassemble the compressor units by first disconnecting the wire harness clip and the connector as well as removing all four bolts. Begin by securing the compressor with four bolts that require torquing to 25 Nm (250 kg.cm, 18 ft.lb) before connecting the connector. Install the discharge and suction hoses to the compressor after applying compressor oil on two new O-rings then fasten both hoses with two bolts that are torqued to 10 Nm (100 kg.cm, 7 ft.lb).
