2000 Toyota Corolla Brake Master Cylinder Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the Brake Master Cylinder on 2000 Toyota Corolla?
A: Service and repair of the Brake Master Cylinder starts with reservoir removal by disconnecting the set screw then pulling out the reservoir while measuring torque at 1.8 Nm (18.4 kgf-cm, 15.9 inch lbs.). Start by taking off the reservoir cap as well as strainer then proceed to pull out the two grommets. Secure the cylinder in a vise and push all the pistons completely in using a screwdriver before removing the piston stopper bolt with gasket using a torque of 10 Nm (100 kgf-cm, 7 ft. lbs.). The snap ring removal requires a screwdriver to push the piston in before using pliers to extract the snap ring to successfully pull the No. 1 piston and spring straight out by hand while maintaining cylinder bore safety. Position two wooden blocks with a rag placed on top of them on the work surface so service distance (A) stretches beyond 100 mm (3.94 inches) and gently strike the cylinder flange against the blocks to remove the piston. Compressed air should be used for cleaning disassembled parts while checks for rust or scoring need to be performed on the cylinder bore alongside assessments for damage and wear. Replace components if necessary or clean them properly. The reassembly process starts by reversing the disassembly sequence and requiring application of lithium soap base glycol grease on rubber components marked with arrows.
