2000 Toyota Corolla Brake Pad Set Parts Q&A
Q: How to replace the Brake Pad Set on 2000 Toyota Corolla?
A: Start with wheel removal along with temporary attachment of the disc using hub nuts. The pad thickness can be measured through the caliper inspection hole so replace the pads if their reading is lower than 1.0 mm (0.039 inch). Use a tool to lift the caliper by removing the installation bolt on the bottom side and place it securely during the procedure while keeping the flexible hose attached. Disassemble the brake pads then remove the four anti-squeal shims together with the two pad support plates and the pad wear indicator plate. Support plates can be reused if they remain free of cracks, deformation, and show no sign of wear and are clean from rust and dirt. Check the disc thickness followed by pad support plate runout measurements before installing the two support plates. To install new pads maintain the anti-squeal shims by also replacing them; add a pad wear indicator plate to the inner pad along with applying disc brake grease to each side of the inner anti-squeal shims before attaching all shims to their respective pads. Position the inner pad upward so its wear indicator plate faces toward the top before adding the outer pad with caution to avoid oil or grease contamination of the pad rubbing faces. To conduct piston installation use a hammer handle on the piston or follow the same method with another equivalent tool. However, if you face resistance loosen the bleeder plug until some fluid escapes while performing the action. Affix the caliper by using the installation bolt while tightening it to 34 Nm torque (350 kgf cm or 25 ft. lbs.). As a last step replace the front wheel while verifying the brake fluid reaches its maximum allowed position.
