2000 Toyota Celica Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Clutch Master Cylinder on 2000 Toyota Celica?
A: The service procedure for Clutch Master Cylinder requires the removal of the brake booster followed by using pliers to disconnect the clip from the reservoir hose and extracting it from the inlet union while storing the fluid in a suitable container. The clutch line requires disconnection using Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 before fluid drains into a catching container. Extract the clip and pin with needle-nose pliers to proceed with removing the master cylinder through the two mounting nuts. Disassemble the inlet union by first driving a slotted spring pin (3 mm) with a pin punch and hammer to remove it before removing bothYLES the inlet union with grommet. First remove the clevis by loosening its lock nut. After that, take the boot off the cylinder. The process to remove the push rod requires manual push force with snap ring pliers to extract the snap ring followed by pulling out the push rod together with its washer. The last step for disassembly involves removing the piston with spring out from the cylinder. All components must receive treatment with lithium soap base glycol grease before the piston with spring gets placed inside the cylinder and the push rod with washer goes inside the piston following snap ring placement. First install the boot to the cylinder then place the lock nut and clevis for temporary installation before positioning the inlet union with fresh grommet while using a pin punch (3 mm) along with a hammer to drive in the slotted spring pin. The master cylinder requires installation with two mounting nuts which should be torqued to 12 Nm (120 kgf-cm/9 ft. lbs) before pin and clip installation. Install the clutch line using Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 with a torque of 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm) (11 ft. lbs.) before attaching the reservoir hose to the inlet union with the yellow mark towards the top and securing it with a clip. The brake booster installation must be followed by filling brake fluid into the reservoir followed by bleeding the clutch system and adjusting the clutch pedal before leak tests.
