Draining engine coolant and stripping off the oil filter constitute the initial tasks to service an oil cooler. Disconnect the 2 water bypass hoses from the oil cooler before you uninstall the union bolt and plate washer and the nut leading to removal of the oil cooler. Check the condition of the O-ring from the oil cooler before replacing it with a new one if required. The service starts by preparing the oil cooler mounting contact surface followed by O-ring application to the cooler before using the nut for temporary fixation. Start by applying a thin layer of engine oil to all areas under the union bolt head and threads. Place the plate washer followed by the union bolt on the mounting before reaching target torque of 78.5 Nm (800 kgf.cm, 58 ft. lbs.). Fasten the nut to 9.0 Nm (92 kgf.cm, 80 inch lbs.) before reattaching the 2 water bypass hoses to the oil cooler. After installing the oil filter between steps the engineer must perform a leak check while also examining the engine oil level.
