2000 Toyota Camry Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and reinstall the radiator assembly on 2000 Toyota Camry?
A: Start the radiator assembly removal process by draining the engine coolant followed by disconnecting the No.1 and No.2 electric cooling fan connectors together with the ECT switch connector for the electric cooling fan and the upper and lower radiator hoses and radiator reservoir hose. Automatic transmission models require removing the 2 oil cooler hoses from the oil cooler pipes. Start by removing two bolts which secure the radiator supports before taking off the assembly piece using the two lower supports respectively. The first step requires disconnecting both the lower radiator hose from the radiator and the No.1 electric cooling fan by removing its ECT switch connector and wire clamp before unfastening the 2 bolts. To remove the No.2 electric cooling fan, users should eliminate the 2 bolts. The disassembly process begins with ECT switch removal before proceeding with O-ring removal followed by drain plug removal together with its installed O-ring. Use Special Service Tool: 09230-01010 to install the claw onto the overhaul handle with the stopper bolt set between 0.2 mm and 0.3 mm (0.008 inch to 0.012 inch). Use the identical tool to unstick lock plates before gently tapping the radiator bracket which will allow tank removal together with its O-ring. One must start by utilizing tools to loosen nuts while removing the cooler pipe, continuing with 2 nuts and plate washers until an oil cooler with its accompanying 2 O-rings becomes removable. The reassembly process requires new O-rings on the oil cooler before attaching it to the lower tank with 2 plate washers and nuts then torquing to 8.3 Nm (85 kgf.cm, 74 inch lbs.) until the cooler pipe receives 14.7 Nm (150 kgf.cm, 11 ft. lbs.) torque. Check the lock plate for damage because any deformation would block appropriate reassembly. The technician installs fresh O-rings and tanks before systematically inspecting the lock plate groove for foreign elements. A soft-faced hammer uses to strike the lock plate until all gaps disappear. Reengage the Special Service Tool and set the stopper bolt at 0.331 inches (8.4 mm) while performing a lock plate caulking process which excludes the bracket and pipe stake points. Post-caulking inspections of the lock plate must show heights ranging between 7.40 - 7.80 mm (0.2913 - 0.3071 inch). After fitting new O-rings to both the ECT switch and switch components, install fresh O-rings on the drain plug before its installation. The inspection for radiator leaks begins with using Special Service Tool: 09230-01010 to block inlet and outlet pipes and applying radiator cap tester pressure to 177 kPa (1.8 kgf/cm2, 26 psi) while immersing the radiator in water. Installation of the No.1 electric cooling fan requires attachment to the radiator with 2 bolts while connecting the ECT switch connector and wire clamp then torquing to 5.0 Nm (50 kgf.cm, 44 inch lbs.). Complete the same process for the No.2 electric cooling fan installation. Install the radiator assembly through the steps of hose and support connection. The lower radiator hose should be installed followed by the automatic transmission models' 2 oil cooler hoses. Also attach both lower and upper radiator supports using bolts which require a torque of 12.8 Nm (130 kgf.cm, 9 ft. lbs.). Route upper and lower radiator hoses together with the radiator reservoir hose and all 2 oil cooler hoses to their respective pipes and then connect electric cooling fan wires with the ECT switch. Start the engine while inspecting the system for any coolant leakage before finishing the procedure with coolant filling.
