2000 Toyota Avalon Steering Angle Sensor Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to calibrate the steering angle sensor and correct the "VSC" and "VSC OFF" lights on 2000 Toyota Avalon?
A: Begin the calibration process of the steering angle sensor and VSC lights fix by making sure the steering wheel sits level before activating any procedure. This process applies when handling tie rod adjustments for off-center steering wheels or during standard wheel alignments or steering angle sensor recalibration or new sensor installations or when replacing VSC ECT units. Begin the calibration process by using Special Service Tool: 09843-18040 to connect terminals Ts and E1 of DLC1. Start the ignition process only after verifying the shift lever positions in the "P" range of the PARK position. Choose the VSC OFF switch to activate it and apply the brake pedal at least three times in a period of two seconds. Press ahead to the following step only after verifying that the VSC buzzer operates for exactly three seconds. Additional steps should be repeated when the buzzer fails to produce any sound. A malfunction in the steering angle sensor may exist when the VSC buzzer continues to fail to sound which requires checking of DTCs for detection. Upon buzzer activation the sensor calibration process results in normal status.
