2000 Toyota Avalon Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Vacuum Brake Booster on 2000 Toyota Avalon?
A: You should start Vacuum Brake Booster servicing and repair by taking out the air cleaner cover with air cleaner hose then remove the master cylinder. Brake booster services and repairs start with removing the precharge pump assembly and disconnecting the vacuum hose when VSC is present. Service and repair of the Vacuum Brake Booster commences with lower No. 1 instrument panel removal followed by the lower LH instrument panel insert and No. 2 heater to register duct. After these components are removed, the brake booster assembly can be extracted by starting with pedal return spring removal and clip and clevis pin extraction followed by four nuts and clevis removal and finally pulling out the brake booster assembly along with its gasket. During installation begin by setting up the new gasket along with booster then connect the clevis to the operating rod before finally torquing the booster installation nuts to 13 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.). First reattach the pedal return spring by inserting the clevis pin into the clevis and brake pedal through the clip. Finally replace the clevis pin with its clip into the clevis and brake pedal. The installation process requires the use of Special Service Tool: 09737-00011 to place on the master cylinder and lower the pin until it meets the piston before flipping the tool over and measuring the booster push rod for 0 mm (0 inch) clearance with the pin. The booster push rod length needs adjustment through the use of Special Service Tool: 09737-00020 until the rod contacts the pin head with only slight pressure. The precharge pump assembly installation comes before master cylinder repair while you connect the vacuum hose to the brake booster only when the system includes VSC. Proceed with brake fluid insertion into the reservoir followed by brake system bleeding before leak inspection and necessary brake pedal adjustment. Finish the installation process by fitting the No. 2 heater to the register duct followed by the lower LH instrument panel insert and lower No. 1 instrument panel before doing an operational check.
