A 90-second wait after disconnecting the negative battery cable is necessary to avoid deploying the Air Bags followed by removing the Air Bag Control Module. Workers need to first remove the shift lever knob sub-assembly for manual transaxle after which they should take out the instrument cluster finish center lower panel and proceed to the front No. 2 and front No. 1 console box inserts. The next step is removing the instrument panel finish lower panel. Both automatic transaxles require the removal of the transmission control cable assembly and manual transaxles need the additional removal of this assembly. You must eliminate both the automatic and manual transaxle shift lever assemblies one after another. Disconnection of the negative battery terminal is necessary before headset removal by pulling down the lever followed by unbolting the 3 screws from the Air Bag sensor assembly.

The tubing for the negative battery terminal cable needs to be disconnected then the system needs to wait for 90 seconds to avoid deploying the Air Bag before servicing the Air Bag Control Module. After taking out the shift lever knob sub-assembly for the Manual Transaxle users must move on to remove the instrument cluster finish center lower panel combined with the front No. 2 console box insert and front No. 1 console box insert. The next step requires removal of the instrument panel finish lower panel. The Automatic Transaxle requires transmission control cable assembly removal together with the shift lever assembly while the Manual Transaxle needs the same assembly removal steps. The last step includes the removal of the center Air Bag sensor assembly while ensuring a complete connection break with the negative battery terminal prevents unnecessary Air Bag activation. You can detach the connector holder through lever pull down while you remove the 3 bolts for sensor extraction.

Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal and wait for 90 seconds to prevent airbag deployment.
