Starter

Start repair or service operations on the starter motor by removing the throttle body cover and the intake air connector followed by disconnection of the throttle body assembly from the intake manifold and removal of the intake manifold assembly. The starter removal process begins by removing two bolts securing it to the cylinder block followed by disconnecting the starter from the cylinder block and unclipping the starter connector before removing the nut and bolt to disconnect the starter wire and finished by unscrewing the bolt detachment of the engine wire protector from the starter. First install the engine wire protector onto the starter by tightening its bolt to 9.81 N.m (100 kgf.cm, 84 in.lbf). First attach the starter wire with a matching torque specification on its nut followed by connecting the starter connector and mounting the starter onto the cylinder block. After attaching the engine wire to the bolt position install the starter by fastening the bolts at 39 N.m (400 kgf.cm, 29 ft.lbf). Follow the starter installation with an intake manifold assembly and throttle body assembly connection before adding the intake air connector and accelerator cable and securing everything with the throttle body cover.

Position the starter assy and secure it with the 2 bolts, torquing them to 37 Nm (377 kgf.cm, 27 ft.lbf).

Inspect the starter yoke assembly for open circuits and shunt coil resistance, which should be between 1.5 - 1.9 Ohms at 20 °C (68 °F), replacing the starter yoke if specifications are not met.

Use a magnetic finger to extract it and apply grease during reassembly.

Reinstall the intake manifold assembly, the intake air connector, the accelerator cable, and the V-bank cover.

Attach the engine wire protector to the starter using the bolt, ensuring a torque of 9.81 N.m (100 kgf.cm, 84 in.lbf).

Remove the 2 bolts securing it to the cylinder block, disconnect the starter from the cylinder block, disconnect the starter connector, remove the nut and bolt to disconnect the starter wire, and finally remove the bolt to disconnect the engine wire protector from the starter before taking the starter out.

Use Special Service Tool: 09286-46011 for the rear bearing and the same tool along with Special Service Tool: 09820-00031 for the front bearing.

Disconnect the throttle body assembly from the intake manifold and remove the intake manifold assembly.

Remove the O-ring from the field frame and use a new O-ring upon reassembly.

Disconnect the throttle body assembly from the intake manifold and remove the intake manifold assembly.

Reinstall the engine under cover assembly rear and reconnect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.

Connect the starter wire with the nut, applying a torque of 8.8 N.m (90 kgf.cm, 78 in.lbf).

Remove the nut and apply a torque of 5.9 N.m (60 kgf.cm, 52 in.lbf).

Unscrew two screws with the same torque specifications as before and then extract the components from the magnetic switch assembly.

Position the starter and secure it with the 2 bolts, torquing them to 37 N.m (377 kgf.cm, 27 ft.lbf).

Use Special Service Tool: 09286-46011 to remove and press in a new rear bearing, and for the front bearing, use the same tool along with Special Service Tool: 09820-00031 and a press, ensuring correct installation direction.

Remove the 2 screws and end cover with torque specifications of 1.5 N.m (15 kgf.cm, 13 in.lbf) for the 1.2 kW and 1.4 kW types, and 3.8 N.m (38 kgf.cm, 34 in.lbf) for the 1.8 kW type, then remove the O-ring and disconnect the 4 brushes from the brush holder.
