    Q:
How to replace the rear Brake Pad Set on Toyota Camry? Posted by Customer
    A:
Wheels and hub nuts need to be removed from the rear wheel so the disc can be fastened before you start replacing brake pads. First check the pad lining thickness through the caliper inspection hole to ensure 1.0 mm (0.039 inch) minimum standard; install new pads when this criterion is not met. You can lift the caliper through the removal of its bottom side slide pin before safely suspending it but leaving the flexible hose connected. Vehicle owners should discard two brake pads with four anti-squeal shims if their vehicle is TMMK made, and such vehicles built by TMC need two brake pads with two anti-squeal shims. Then remove the pad wear indicator but keep the 4 pad support plates if they remain free of damage, signs of wear and rust and dirt contamination. It is necessary to check disc thickness and runout before installing the 4 pad support plates. The installation of new pads requires new anti-squeal shims too; TMMK made vehicles need disc brake grease on both sides of the inner anti-squeal shims before their placement onto each pad with the wear indicator plates facing downward. The pads and disc must have all traces of oil and grease removed from their friction contact points. The caliper installation method consists of drawing enough brake fluid from the reservoir followed by pressing the piston with a hammer hand or equivalent tool (the bleeder plug needs loosening if pressing the piston becomes challenging) before putting in the caliper and the slide pin with lithium soap base glycol grease on the slide pin. Secure the flexible hose and bolt to its bracket by applying either 43 Nm torque for TMMK vehicles or 34 Nm torque for TMC vehicles. When done with installation torque the rear wheel to 103 Nm (1.050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.) then depress the brake pedal several times and verify the fluid level reaches the max line.

    Q:
How to replace the rear Brake Pad Set on Toyota Camry? Posted by Customer
    A:
The process to replace rear brake pads requires the time-saving step of taking off the rear wheel while keeping the disc buttoned down by the hub nuts. Use the caliper inspection hole to check pad lining thickness measuring at least 1.0 mm (0.039 inch). Replace the parts if the measurement is below this standard. Start pad replacement by removing the caliper suspension bolt aside from the flexible hose bracket followed by the torque plate screw and continuing with secure caliper suspension without disconnecting the hose. Two brake pads together with four anti-squeal shims and four pad support plates need removal during servicing but can be reused if they exhibit no sign of damage, no cracks and no uniform wear and have no rust or dust accumulation. You should examine disc dimensions along with runout measurements before putting in the four pad support plates. For installing new pads you should also replace the anti-squeal shims; apply disc brake grease to both sides of the inner anti-squeal shims after which you should install two shims on each pad and position the pads with their pad wear indicator plate facing upward while ensuring there is no oil or grease on the friction surfaces. To mount the caliper first remove a small amount of brake fluid from the reservoir then push the piston in with a hammer handle and similar implement (untightening the bleeder plug when needed) and tighten the bolt to 20 Nm (200 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs.). Fasten the flexible hose along with its bracket bolt by applying torque to 29 Nm (300 kgf-cm, 21 ft. lbs.). Finish the installation by torquing the rear wheel to 103 Nm (1.050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.) then hit the brake pedal several times to complete the process. Ensure the fluid reaches the max line on the reservoir.
