The Water Pump in Toyota Tacoma is an important component of automobile's cooling system that is responsible for circulating the coolant or the water and Antifreeze mixture from the radiator to the engine block and back to the radiator. As for the Water Pump, it plays an important role of assisting in the process of cooling that takes place in the engine assembly; the absence of which results in engine seizure and consequently, expensive replacements. Lacking the Water Pump to circulate the coolant, the engine will heat up immediately, and this is dangerous. Although highly dependable system, Water Pumps can develop faults from one reason or the other; a convincing reason as to why the system is critical for the vehicle's performance and durability.

Toyota Tacoma Water Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to install the water pump assembly and related components on Toyota Tacoma?
    A:
The water pump installation requires application of a new gasket along with securing the pump through 10 bolts. Torque the A bolt to 21 Nm (214 kgf-cm, 15 ft-lbf) and torque bolt B to 9 Nm (92 kgf-cm, 80 in-lbf). Install the belt tensioner in place temporarily through bolts A and B before locking bolt B with 40 Nm (408 kgf-cm, 30 ft-lbf) and then bolt A to 21 Nm (214 kgf-cm, 16 ft-lbf). Before tightening bolt C to 43 Nm (434 kgf-cm, 32 ft-lbf) ensure proper alignment of the bolt holes between the V-ribbed belt tensioner and timing chain cover. The generator assembly installation should be followed by installation of fan shroud and radiator support to frame seal LH. Fasten the negative battery cable with a 3.9 Nm torque value which corresponds to 40 kgf-cm and 35 in-lbf. Check for engine coolant leakage after addition. For the Pre Runner and 4WD Type final installation involves placing the under cover sub-assembly on No. 1 engine and securing it using 4 bolts tightened to 30 Nm (306 kgf-cm, 22 ft-lbf).
  • Q: How to remove the water pump on Toyota Tacoma?
    A:
Disconnecting the negative battery terminal cable needs to be the first step for water pump removal. Beginning the procedure requires you to remove the 4 bolts from the No. 1 engine under cover sub-assembly. The first step requires draining the engine coolant then removing the radiator support to frame seal LH followed by the fan shroud. You should remove the generator assembly after finishing the other steps. Take out the three bolts from the V-ribbed belt tensioner assembly before extracting the water pump assembly by unscrewing its 10 bolts which will separate the water pump and gasket.
