To ensure that the lubricant remains at the right viscosity and protects moving components, the Toyota RAV4 Engine Oil Cooler helps to reduce the oil temperature. It forces hot oil to pass through orifices enclosed by engine coolant to create an oil to water Engine Oil Cooler. Connection to the cooling system allows the Engine Oil Cooler to heat oil quickly but limit maximum temperature during vigorous driving. This control assists the RAV4 in preventing thermal failure during towing or climbing in extreme external temperatures. The coolant that is not maintained may block the water side of the Engine Oil Cooler and reduce the efficiency of heat transfer. Corrosion can expose leaks that combine oil and coolant and diminish protection, causing contamination within the two circuits. The Toyota RAV4 still has its limits even in extreme conditions, which the built-in Engine Oil Cooler is unable to handle. Regular maintenance of the cooling system in the Toyota RAV4 provides reliable operation. Stabilization of heat exchange is achieved by using Toyota approved coolant at the right level.

Toyota RAV4 Engine Oil Cooler Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to service the Engine Oil Cooler on Toyota RAV4?
    A:
The service process for the oil cooler begins by taking off the RH engine under cover followed by draining the engine coolant and continuing with removal of the front Exhaust Pipe generator oil dipstick Exhaust Manifold and front TWC assembly. Use Special Service Tool: 09228-06501 to remove the Oil Filter after you detach the heat protector from the water bypass pipe by unbolt the two nuts. The first step is to disconnect the bypass water hoses from the oil cooler before removing its union bolt and plate washer followed by the nut and oil cooler itself and extraction of the O-ring from the cooler. Check the oil cooler for damage and obstruction before replacing it when necessary. The installation process starts with clearance of the oil cooler contact area followed by O-ring replacement and as a first step install the oil cooler using the nut while applying thin engine oil to both threads and the relief valve head. Finally bolt the plate washer and torque it to 78 Nm (800 kgf-cm, 58 ft. lbs.). Secure the nut at 8.8 Nm strength while completing the water bypass hose connections to the oil cooler. Next follow these installation steps: the oil filter then mount the water bypass hose heat protector by securing it with bolt and two nuts followed by exhaust manifold and front TWC assembly then put the oil dipstick with generator along with front exhaust pipe. The first task involves adding engine coolant followed by a start of the engine to detect any leakage before inspecting the engine oil level and reinstalling the RH engine under cover.
